No Speeding in the Laboratory
 Are you speeding in the laboratory? Have you taken short cuts because you are in a hurry? Recently the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report which suggests that the researcher responsible for the contamination of a relatively benign H9N2 bird flu strain with the deadly H5N1 was in a rush to attend a lab meeting.

High Pressure Reaction Vessels
 We are finding some of our laboratories are using high pressure reactor vessels such as a Parr bomb which can be seen in the picture to the right. Please be aware that operations using high pressure must be performed in specialized chambers equipped and designed for this purpose.
There are commercially available high pressure reactor vessels that are designed and manufactured to ensure safe operation when used within the temperature and pressure limits for which they are rated. Any documentation and manuals that pertain to the reactor vessel in use must be thoroughly read and understood.
Please understand that in the end it is the user’s responsibility to make sure that the selected vessel is compatible with the reagents and conditions to which it will be exposed during the experiment.
